From 14 to 24 December, the 2024 Ukrainian National Chess Championships are taking place in Lviv. Despite the ongoing war, Ukrainian chess players have come together this year to compete in the classical chess, rapid and blitz championships.

The event is organised by the Ukrainian Chess Federation, the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine, the Lviv City Council and Ukrnafta.

This marks the 92nd championship final for men and the 82nd championship final for women. The prize fund is 600,000 hryvnias (approximately €14,000), equally divided between the two championships.

All rounds start at 3:00 PM Kyiv time. The venue in Lviv is the Dnister Premier Hotel. A total of 127 male players and 33 female players have registered for the championships.

14-22 December - Classical Championship
22 December - Blitz Championship
23 December - Rapid Championship

Ensuring the smooth running of the event are IA Oleg Tovchyga as Chief Arbiter, IM FST Volodymyr Grabinsky as Tournament Director, and FM Volodymyr Kovalchuk, Vice President of the Ukrainian Chess Federation.

The top seed in the men's championship is GM Mykhaylo Oleksiyenko, rated 2570, while WGM Anastasiya Rakhmangulova, rated 2330, heds the field in the women's championship.

The opening ceremony - The first move of the championship was made by the mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovyi and the President of the Ukrainian chess federation Oleksander Kamishin
